Medical College for Women and Hospital
- June 19, 2024
In Bangladesh, with its population exceeding 160 million, the doctor-patient ratio remains insufficient. To address this, both government initiatives and private entrepreneurs have established medical colleges and hospitals, with significant strides made by the private sector. The government has implemented stringent standards and guidelines to regulate private medical colleges. Enam Medical College, founded in 2003, meets all the criteria set by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council, and the University of Dhaka. Initially, the college was permitted to admit 50 students for the 2003-2004 MBBS session. Currently, it can enroll 155 students, boasting the highest admission capacity among private medical colleges in Bangladesh. The college is affiliated with the University of Dhaka and is recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC). Additionally, its hospital training programs are recognized by the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS), and it is listed in the recognition lists of FAIMER, AVISINA, and IMED.
Enam Medical College & Hospital aims to offer comprehensive education and professional development for its students. The college has a highly qualified academic faculty and a well-equipped hospital with modern facilities. These resources are designed to help students acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to address community health issues and prepare them for their professional careers.
Enam Medical College is situated at 9/3 Parboti Nagar, Bir Muktijoddha Abul Kashem Sandeep Sarak (Thana Road), Savar, Dhaka, approximately 15 kilometers from Dhaka's Gabtoli bus terminal. Savar is renowned for its natural beauty, including forests, lakes, small rivers, and migratory birds in winter. The area is also home to several notable educational institutions, such as Jahangir Nagar University, the Public Administration Training Center (PATC), the Bangladesh Krira Shikhha Protisthan (BKSP), and the National Youth Development Training Center.
Other significant landmarks in Savar include the Jatio Sriti Shoudha, Savar Cantonment, Fantasy Kingdom, Nandan Park, EPZ, the Center for Rehabilitation for the Paralysed (CRP), and a radio transmission tower.
The college and hospital are housed in three interconnected 10-story buildings with ample open space for parking and other purposes. The departments and wards are well-organized to meet the needs of a modern medical college and hospital. The campus also features a large building dedicated to a cancer hospital, three lecture halls with advanced audiovisual systems, and outdoor diagnostic and transfusion services. Two additional lecture halls are under construction. Additionally, there is a four-story air-conditioned mosque for men and women, and a new academic building is being constructed to provide even more space.
